For our first meeting of the New Year our guest speaker, from Eckerd College, is Lara Milligan. She will be speaking about microplastics in the ocean.
Recently, students from Eckerd College sailed aboard a Florida Institute of Oceanography (FIO) vessel as part of their Oceanography class. Students sample the water, sediments, and large and small organisms that live in Tampa Bay. She will be talking about their findings.
Happy Hour is 6-7pm with the meeting beginning at 7pm. As usual, Jimmy Guana’s will provided free appetizers, but you may also ordered dinner during the meeting. New Members are welcome!

The Boat Club goes to Island Way Grill on Island Estates to indulge in their fabulous Sunday afternoon brunch. They have several floating docks. We normally sit together outside on the south patio. The cost is $23 per person and includes a free mimosa.
This is always our most popular event and starts with champagne and bloody Mary’s and oh so much food then ends with a visit to the dessert room. If you have never been there for Sunday Brunch, it is a must do. See photos of all the fun we have had at this brunch on our Photo page.
You MUST RSVP for this event – by phone at (727) 430-8300 or via e-mail: IRBboatclub@gmail.com

Our speaker is Hunter Miller with Oceana, a conservation organization focusing solely on ocean issues. He will be discussing the federal government’s recent offshore drilling plan and how local communities are standing up to protect our coast. Offshore drilling is a direct threat to our coastal economies, our beaches and marine ecosystems and our way of life. Come hear about what exactly is in this plan and how you can get involved.
