For our first meeting of the New Year our guest speaker was our local Natural Resources Agent, Lara Milligan with UF/IFAS Extension. She gave an extremely interesting and informative presentation before a packed house about the basics of microplastics including what they are and where the come from, actions we can take as individuals to help with this issue. This is a relatively new water quality concern and she highlighted the relevant research findings.

Our next meeting is February 16 with guest speaker Charley Morgan Yachts, former owner of Morgan Yachts. In addition to starting a major, well respected Yacht Building Company right here in Pinellas County, he is responsible for creating many large sailing championships, many for charities.
Now in his 80s, Charley has developed the art of painting and guess what his primary subjects are? Boats of course.

In light of Hurricane Irma Cliff Wyatt, owner of Clearwater’s Florida Coastal Insurance Agency will talk about “Insuring Your Boats”…what you may not know.” He is a boat owner and specializes in boat insurance. He can tell you things you do not know about your boat insurance.
The second speaker is Captain Bob Myers with Intra Coastal Transit Group who is involved with Marine Transit Development. He has been involved with the Ferry Services in downtown St Pete, Madeira Beach and other venues along our Intracoastal Waterway.

Dean Forss, a local artist and 30 year veteran cartographer, who creates framed detailed nautical charts and maps out of wood with a laser. Also, the management of The Seaside Seabird Sanctuary (that is their new name), will talk about the SSS and their recent changes. Located just 3 miles south of Indian Rocks, the Seabird Sanctuary still provides a variety of services to injured and needy birds.
